Weekly Meeting: March 14, 2022

“Is Meaningful Civil Discourse Possible Today?”, March 14th – 12:00-1:00pm

“We would all like to think of ourselves as being capable of fair minded, clear eyed neutrality when listening to the opinions and beliefs of others.  But this is easier said than done. People who disagree will speak past one another, while those who agree find themselves trapped in echo chambers that they don’t even realize are there. How can we get beyond this sort of situation? What does it mean to meaningfully engage with those with whom we disagree in civil discourse? How much tolerance can we have and ought we have for positions we find intolerant or intolerable? And finally, what would solutions to these seemingly intractable problems in civil discourse look like?”
